Sporting Events for Each Month – A Selected List of Highlights



January – Australian Open
The first tennis Grand Slam of the season traditionally takes place in Melbourne, Australia, between January 14-27, 2019. The hard-surface tournament will bring together the biggest aces in tennis, both men and women. Czech fans can look forward to performances from traditional women\’s headliners Kvitova and Pliskova and, after a long hiatus, Tomas Berdych.

Czech fans are not only crazy about world sports. Czech patriots will not forget the traditional cross-country ski race in the Jizera Mountains. This event will take place on February 10.
March – European Indoor Athletics Championships

From March 1-3, top European athletes will compete. Czech runner Pavel Maslák is one of the Czechs to watch.
April-Boston Marathon and London Marathon
.
April also marks the season for the champions of endurance runners. The major marathons in Boston, USA and London, UK are among the most famous and prestigious among fans and runners. They take place on April 15 (Boston) and 28 (London),
and are the most popular marathons in the world.
May – Ice Hockey World Championships
One of the most watched events in our country will be held in Slovakia from May 10 to 26. This year, due to the proximity of the host country, the national team can be heard cheering from the stands.
June – Champions League Final

Starting on the edge of June (the 1st), a true football feast, the final of the highest club competition takes place. This year it will be held in Madrid.
July – Tour de France
.
The “Old Lady” Tour de France, now in its 106th year, offers riders challenging mountain climbs and endless flats. The most famous cycling stage race takes place from July 6-28.

August – Basketball World Championships
.
China will host the World Basketball Championships this year, which will take place in late August and early September. The main contenders for the tournament are the U.S. basketball teams.
September – World Athletics Championships
.
The pinnacle of outdoor athletics this season will be held in Doha, Qatar. Uncompromising performances by the best athletes will take place in the extreme conditions of this Gulf state.
October – Rugby World Cup
At the turn of September and October, rugby teams play in Japan. The sport, which is growing in popularity in our country, has long been dominated by the New Zealand national team, the “All Blacks” with their legendary hakashow.

November – Tournament of Champions

The highlight of the tennis season is the welcoming of the most successful tennis players of the year. The women will compete for the championship in Shenzhen, China, while the men traditionally use the London courts.
December – U20 World Championships[58]
The last month of the year often does not host major sporting events. However, the Czech Republic (Trinec) will host the U20 Hockey World Championships. Can the Czech youth break the unlucky streak of no medals? We will find out on January 5, 2020. The tournament will begin on December 26, 2019.
