Major Snow became squadron commander on the 16th August 1917. Already awarded the
DSO and Military Cross he took over when the squadron was recovering from the devastation that had been the
Arras offensive and the subsequent re-equipment to the Armstrong-Whitworth FK8.
It was during his
watch that the second VC was awarded to a squadron member, Lt "Babe" McLeod (click
here for a full account). He remained the boss until August of the following year.
