November 1915 - Major C F de S.Murphy

Major S.Murphy assumed command of II(AC) Sqn in November 1915 but was destined only to be in post for a few months.  However, it was to be a period of significant change for both the RFC and the squadron and the manner in which missions were planned and conducted.  Hitherto both the Army and the RFC made demands on the squadron for different types of air support and as the war continued and expanded the situation became both untenable and unmanageable.  So it was that Air Brigades were formed which each consisted of two wings with each wing dedicated to serving either the Army or the RFC.   II(AC) Sqn became part of the First (Corps) Wing and were delegated to conduct missions for the RFC.  It was in this position in the Battle Order that he handed over command to Major Murphy in April 1916.
