Andy Hine assumed command of the squadron in September 2005.
Continuing a Family tradition of RAF service he graduated from the RAFC Cranwell in 1988 to begin a path of
training which saw him convert to the Tornado GR1 in 1992 prior to being posted to 17 (F) Squadron at RAF
Bruggen. The next 8 years were shared between RAF Bruggen (17 (F) Sqn), RAF Lossiemouth (12 (B)
Sqn) and RAF Marham (XIII Sqn), the latter as a flight commander. His "Tornado CV" includes 8
operational deployments to police the skies of Iraq (over 100 missions) plus numerous exercises as far
afield as Malaysia, Canada and the USA.
In 2000 Andy attended the Advanced Command and Staff Course at Shrivenham, Wiltshire followed by a tour in
Operational Requirements in the MoD, Whitehall. Promoted to Wing Commander in 2003, he became
Personal Staff Officer to Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (initially to AVM Phil Sturley, a former Boss of
"Shiny Two"). After 2 years in post, he began his refresher training prior to taking command of
the Squadron at their present base at RAF Marham. In May 2008 he handed over command of the
squadron to Wg Cdr John Taylor.
