May 1922 - Squadron Leader L F Forbes

Squadron Leader Forbes took command of the Squadron following the untimely death of Sqn Ldr Smythies who had been appointed the successor to Sqn Ldr Butler.  (The cause of death which happened within days of his appointment is not presently recorded).  Boss Forbes took the reins on the 15th of May 1922 when the squadron was enjoying a short stay at Digby but within weeks they were to return to Ireland (Aldergrove in the North).  This was the start of a period of great unrest and turmoil given the squadron was scattered with flights being located at various Irish and English bases (including a return to its birthplace, Farnborough).  At the end of 1923 the dispersed elements of the squadron were reunited when Boss Forbes took the squadron to Andover where he continued to command "Shiney Two" until April 1925.
