Major Becke became squadron commander on the 2nd June 1915 taking over from Major
Webb-Bowen who was posted to Home Establishment. Major Becke was an "old hand" on the squadron
having been a member from its formation at Farnborough in 1912. He remained the CO until the 3rd
November of the same year when he was posted to take command of the 1st Corps Wing of the RFC.
The accompanying picture is from a contemporary newspaper clipping which conveyed news of his promotion.
