The North American Mustang joined the squadron in April 1942 replacing the altogether unsuitable Curtiss Tomahawk. It was an aircraft much loved by those who were priviledged to fly it; a reconnaissance pilot's dream. With six wing-mounted guns it meant that not only could it be used in the attack role but it could take care of itself in defence as well!
